I don't think we do describe the heavy cups as being better than the standard cups. Some players like the sound of a heavier cup but it is really a matter of personal preference. In a resonant acoustic the heavy cups can sound very distinctive and focussed. In a very dead acoustic they can feel a bit less responsive, even if they still sound good.
