I agree with Mel.
I think I'm one of those people mentioned by implication in the wonderful little book 'The Horn, The Horn' by the late Dick Merewether, the ones who are happy to accept that the Sun rises and sets and don't need to know the precise elliptical configuration of planetary orbits that give rise to the apparent motion of the Sun!
Dan of Belfast makes a good point in that , why should we seriously expect PHC to give away their trade secrets?
Paxman horn makers don't hand out graphs of their mouth-pipe tapers, PHC don't tell us the precise configuration of their cups' depth and the backbore tapers etc. We horn-players should be happy and content that they WORK , and if we get really obsessively curious about the reason 'why' we can cut one up with a hacksaw and measure it!
