Your posting poses a very intriguing problem. If all else fails, I think it'll have to be the sling, but maybe the finger-hook is not the best point of attachment. I should think somewhere nearer the centre of the instrument would be better, but experimentation will be required. Whatever you end up with will need practising on, too, so you can get used to it.

Some horns have a rest for the top of the index finger, which then takes the weight and is often adjustable. Getting one of these fitted in time for your concert is probably not an option, or is it? You'd need to go to a friendly brass repair man.
