Some time ago I conducted an interesting experiment with the PHC 24-25 and 24A-25A cups, using sand as a filler.
Although the 25/25A cups are indeed deeper (slightly) than the 24/24A, the internal VOLUME of the 24/24A is greater (owing to its more rounded 'bowl' shape.
It is only to be expected that you should have to tune your horn to a slightly higher pitch using the 24A cup.
I recently played 4th horn in a concert using a 35 cup and had to play with all the slides pushed 'all the way' in.
