Mouthpiece Maniac is absolutely correct.
The cup size and shape will affect your tuning. In fact changing any aspect of the mouthpiece can affect your tuning. For example you could expand your backbore and it will lower the pitch of your lower harmonics and raise the pitch of your higher harmonics. So, in theory, if you had a student with a consistent tuning issue you could make a mouthpiece adjustment to compensate for that issue - in theory. (you could also give him a tuner and tell him to go home play long tones, and etudes).Of course before you start whitling away on your $75 and up mouthpieces you might want to do a whole lot of research before you bugger it up.
