I have a nickel, gold plated and acetal rim, and find that they have their various benefits/ characteristics. The nickel rim is fine, and I am not allergic to it but I worry that it does bring some people out in a rash.. so I have an acetal rim that I used for a while and it is nice and warm when you put it against your mouth. But it doesn't move against the lip as easily as a polished nickel one - more like a tarnished nickel one. I like a slippy rim, so I got a gold plated one. And I am very happy with it. (but I don't think it makes me play any better.....)
