If I may mouth my piece on this subject, I find the hole discussion anything but boring. However, my wife says in regard to this forum that I must taper back, bore her no more. I do have a legit question about mouthpiece construction: On several trumpet mouthpieces, as well as a Wick horn model, there is a rather sharp edge, or ledge, where I suspect the tooling broke through to the cup area. Being the most narrow point, and the place where the transition from cup to the leadpipe actually takes place, it seems it would be better to round off that edge, as I think it would cause turbulence. It does seem like a very critical area of the instrument. I have seen on a few of my PHC cups little ridges in the backbore area as well.
Any thoughts about this?
