The sharp edge at the junction point between cup and bore used to be a feature of Baroque trumpet mouthpieces and was claimed to help the high register and with the lipping of the out-of-tune harmonics. However, it has no place in a horn mouthpiece!
To the best of our knowledge, NONE of the PHC cups have this feature, nor do they any 'little ridges' you mention. If you indeed own any PHC cups like that, they may simply be faulty and as such should be returned to Paxmans, as long as they are fairly new; if you bought them several months or years ago it's a bit late to complain now!
