Dan,
I have not done any scientific studies myself, but I was told for many years that mouthpiece rims do wear and that they are not perfectly round to begin with.

I admit I am repaeting what I have HEARD. I will see if I have time to measure my rims tonight and see what comes of it. Watch me end up looking like a monkey.
