It is impossible (ok, very difficult) to measure how long the tapered part of the mouthpipe is and if one's objective is to get the small end of the mouthpiece sitting as exactly as possible where that taper ends and the mouthpipe venturi is, that measurement would be needed. If you give your mouthpiece to your mouthpipe maker then he/she could make the receiver taper to suit it - i.e. to bring the tip of the mouthpiece to the 'right' point. Otherwise there will always be a bit of guesswork involved, and given others' comments about phc/ alex fits this whole business probably doesn't matter as much as nerds like me seem to make it...
