Very interesting indeed and thank you for these insights. I am led to wonder ... If the profile of the backbore of the mouthpiece can affect the playing qualities of the instrument then does the step between mouthpiece end and venturi also have an effect? I believe trumpet leadpipes are designed so that the receiver butts the small end of the moutpiece against the start of the leadpipe, without a step. I wonder why this is not common practice in horn leadpipes since the leadpipe taper effectively starts at the venturi of the moutpiece.
