You say

In 18th C trumpet mouthpieces one of the features that aids the achievement of very high pitches (harmonics 16 and upwards) is the very sharply deliniated right angle at the end of the mouthpiece's (nominal)backbore and its entry into the (cylindrical) 'small' end of the 18th C trumpet.
I have heard that some experiments with 20th/21stC horn mouthieces in wich a 'ledge' was provided, corresponding with the end of the horn m'pices backbore/ shank, resulted in only an improvement to the horn's low register. The high pitches became wooly and indistinct.
