yes, all instruments seem to have some quirks and it takes some time to get used to them. My most recent acquisition (as a serious playing horn) is one that I built myself, and consequently I apprenticed myself to the horn at the same time as doing 'sea trials', as it were. It means it is quite difficult to be objective about the instrument, but others have confirmed my views on its qualities. Which are generally good.
