There's a great deal of snobbery when it comes to makes of horn. Holton is a case in point - the fact that they make 'student' horns which look almost exactly like the 'professional' models seems to count against them (although the 378 is a pretty good medium bore instrument by anyone's standards). I've played lots of makes over the years, including Alex (never again!), Paxman and Conn, and it never ceases to amaze me how other players jump to a whole set of conclusions as soon as the case opens. Just like handbags with 'designer labels'...
