The horn John Lennon is holding in the black-and-white photo looks to me to be a Paxman Bb/F-alto with ascending third valve, although I may stand to be corrected. The photo probably wasn't taken at the "Revolver" recording session, since I believe you are right in saying that Alan Civil used a Bb soprano on the "For No-one" track of the "Revolver" album. I understand it was an Alex and I believe I know who now owns it.
